As a binaural hearing aid user, Katy Mawson shares first-hand experiences with the experiences of audiology patients. She believes patients should be able to make informed healthcare decisions with their providers. It’s about more than just aiding a hearing loss—it’s about empowering patients to live life at full volume.

Katy earned her Doctor of Audiology from Idaho State University and her Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Nevada, Reno. Her externship at Sierra Nevada Veterans Hospital in Reno, NV, focused on adult diagnostics and hearing aid dispensing.

Katy holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and is past president of Northwest Academy of Audiology.

Katy was featured on the ASHA podcast discussing her cancer survivorship and advocating for ototoxic education among oncologists, ENTs and other cancer-related healthcare providers. She has been a presenter for the pharmaceutical industry for two years, providing audiologic education and the importance of hearing conservation when a patient receives ototoxic medication

Outside of work, Katy is building a social media following as a BookTok creator, reviewing books and discussing the historical and cultural significance of events that inspire novels. While listening to audiobooks, she enjoys gardening, caring for houseplants and completing complex jigsaw puzzles. She and her partner, Peter, have four cats: Waffles, Jack, Toast and George Michael
